Internship Doesn’t Look Interesting – But It’s All I Got

Dear Experts,

I applied for a few spring internships and only heard back from one. The interview went well and I have a feeling I’ll get the position. Unfortunately, this internship program is the least interesting of the three I applied to.

Even though I don’t think I’ll enjoy myself, should I take this internship position? It’s also the least related to my major out of the three.


It is always advisable to show current employment an/or internships on your resume and to have no gaps, if possible.  Therefore, I would advise that you accept the internship and reevaluate your next step.

Are there skills or abilities you can acquire that will make you more marketable for the next application to internship or employment?  You might consider asking for feedback from the other programs to see  if there are areas upon which you can improve for future consideration.

If you are not able to obtain feedback, you should take this opportunity to do some self assessment and evaluate your skills, abilities, and career goals now rather than later…
