I’m a Finalist for a Job – But There’s a Late Entry!

Dear Experts,

I went on a second interview today and found out I beat out 9 candidates and am the finalist for a job. However, an employee just referred someone and they feel obligated to bring this person because there is a referral fee program at the company.

What can I do to stay in the lead and get this job! My interviews are done, so I have no way of finding out how the other person compares.


Unfortunately, you are not the hiring manager!  Be graceful in this situation and write a thank you note that stresses your desire to work with this company/manager.  It is possible that even if hired, this person may not work out and the hiring manager will look to the next in line:  YOU!
