How Often Can I Use My Network for Help?

September 16, 2009 by sparktalk

Dear Experts,

I am contacting people in my network, who are in my field to look for a job. I always send them an email with my resume and types of jobs I am looking for, but they hardly respond back to me (I believe everyone is busy!)

How often is it ‘okay’ to send my network a reminder to ask them for help, without sounding desperate ?

ANSWER:

Don’t ask for help – update your network on your newly revised resume, details about types of employers you are targeting or positions your are focusing on.  “Sell” yourself to your network.

Of course, it helps if you have truly been networking WITH those in your group and not just tapping into them for help now that you need them!  (@marysevinsky)
